CJP Targets Centre Over Rs 92.35 Crore Upkeep Cost for Ministers' Bungalows
In New Delhi, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has targeted the central government over an expenditure of Rs 92.35 crore incurred on the upkeep and renovation of Union ministers' official residences in 2025-26, arguing that the public money should instead have been used to construct government schools.
Reacting to information revealed through a Right to Information (RTI) query by news agency PTI, the outfit took to social media to criticise the record expenditure on ministerial accommodation. The CJP stated that the amount spent on repairs, furnishing, and renovations was enough to build multiple educational institutions.
"Stop fixing your lavish homes, and fix the schools!" the CJP said in its post. The outfit further stated, "Rs 92 crore = 10 new world class government schools. The money is available, the intent to use it for government schools is missing."
According to the RTI details reported by PTI, the annual expenditure on repair, furnishing, and renovation works at the official bungalows of Union ministers climbed to a record Rs 92.35 crore in 2025-26. This figure represents an increase from the Rs 71.98 crore spent during the 2024-25 period, and a significant rise compared to the Rs 27.47 crore recorded in 2014-15.
The CJP's statement came ahead of a planned meeting of its national working committee on Monday. The committee is set to convene to review the central government's progress on commitments made following the withdrawal of the outfit's nationwide agitation on July 25.
The organisation has alleged that the Centre has not yet formally communicated the steps taken to implement assurances provided during discussions. These commitments include the withdrawal and quashing of FIRs lodged against students and peaceful protesters.
Furthermore, the CJP highlighted that the government had yet to deliver on assurances regarding compensation for the families of NEET-UG candidates who died by suicide after the examination was cancelled following the paper leak controversy.
