CJP Supporters Clash With Delhi Police in Central Delhi Over Exam Paper Leaks

On Monday, supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) clashed with Delhi Police in central Delhi during an attempted march towards Parliament. The demonstrators gathered in the capital to demand the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities.

The protest quickly escalated as CJP supporters, carrying the national tricolour and shouting slogans, marched through the streets. The demonstrators pushed through multiple police barricades that had been erected to secure the area. In response, Delhi Police personnel used force to halt the march and prevent the crowd from reaching the Parliament building, leading to the detention of several CJP supporters.

The confrontation on Monday disrupted the high-security zone of central Delhi, a frequent focal point for major political demonstrations. Over the years, the capital has witnessed numerous large-scale mobilisations where protesters have attempted to march toward Parliament or other high-security zones to press their demands before the government.

These include the 2023 protests where leading wrestlers at Jantar Mantar attempted to march towards the newly inaugurated Parliament building before being detained by police. Similarly, during the 2012 Nirbhaya protests, thousands of citizens assembled at India Gate and Raisina Hill, attempting to march to Parliament and Rashtrapati Bhavan before being dispersed by police with water cannons and tear gas.

Other significant demonstrations in the capital's recent history include the 2011 anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare, the anti-CAA protests of 2019 and 2020, and the 2021 Republic Day tractor rally, which also saw clashes between security forces and protesters in central Delhi.

Monday's demonstration by CJP supporters over exam irregularities has added another chapter to this history of mass public protests on the streets of the national capital.
