CJP Spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya Slams Trolls Over Burger Controversy In Delhi Protest
CJP spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya has hit back at online trolls who criticized him for allegedly eating a burger during a recent protest in Delhi.
Addressing the backlash in a video shared on social media, Dahiya questioned why protesters are held to unfair standards of scrutiny compared to the general public. He highlighted the exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and personal sacrifices made by activists who participate in demonstrations.
"Why did I eat a burger? This is a big issue today. So why does anyone eat a burger? He is hungry. He wants to eat a burger. That's it," Dahiya said. He explained that he was extremely hungry at the time and added that critics fail to see the physical toll of protesting, noting that he and other demonstrators had not slept for two consecutive nights.
In his video response, Dahiya pointed out the double standards of his critics, stating that people who sit at home and have no interest in social or political issues are never questioned for what they eat. However, when a protester who is actively speaking about national issues eats, it becomes a point of contention. He compared the online backlash to previous instances where critics took issue with farmers eating pizza during protests.
Dahiya also addressed allegations regarding his dedication to the cause, noting that his regular work has suffered since he joined the protest, but he continues to participate because he believes the cause is worth fighting for. He challenged his critics' sense of entitlement, asking if they had elected him to a position that makes him so accountable to them.
Despite the online outrage, Dahiya clarified in his post that he did not actually end up eating the burger. "By the way, I didn't eat the burger, because I felt that it has maida and transfats, and maybe I should eat elsewhere," he wrote.
The video sparked mixed reactions online, with some users supporting Dahiya's response, while others accused CJP leaders of abandoning the protest site to relax while students faced consequences.
