The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) apprehended two passengers at Delhi Airport on Wednesday after intercepting cash worth Rs 68.5 lakh concealed in cardboard boxes within their baggage.

The two passengers were scheduled to travel to Agartala via Guwahati when security personnel detected the undeclared money during routine screening procedures.

According to a CISF official, security personnel stationed at the random X-BIS checkpoint identified a passenger at the check-in area based on behaviour detection techniques. Upon further review of CCTV footage, officials identified a second passenger accompanying him.

Following the detection of suspicious luggage, security staff screened the baggage belonging to both individuals and uncovered a substantial quantity of currency notes packed inside cardboard boxes.

Of the total Rs 68.5 lakh recovered, Rs 29.4 lakh was found in the baggage of the first passenger, while Rs 39.1 lakh was seized from the second passenger.

The CISF promptly alerted the Income Tax Department about the recovery. Income tax officials arrived at the scene to count and verify the cash.

Both passengers, along with their travel documents, baggage, and the seized cash, were handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
