Centre Updates NCR District List for Rajasthan to Reflect 2023 Reorganisation

The Central Government on Friday updated the statutory list of districts and tehsils under the National Capital Region (NCR) in Rajasthan, officially notifying Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Bharatpur, Deeg, and five tehsils of Kotputli-Behror as part of the region. The gazette notification aligns the NCR boundary records with Rajasthan's 2023 district reorganisation. The move does not expand or reduce the overall physical boundary of the NCR.

Under the newly issued notification, the five specific tehsils in the Kotputli-Behror district that are designated within the NCR are Behror, Bansur, Neemrana, Mandan, and Narayanpur.

These administrative changes were notified under Section 2(f) of the NCR Planning Board Act. This statutory provision empowers the Centre to amend the schedule specifying NCR areas. Such amendments are made after conducting consultations with the NCR Planning Board and obtaining formal consent from the participating state governments.

This update comes ahead of the anticipated adoption of the Regional Plan-2041 for the NCR, which is scheduled for mid-August. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal announced the timeline for the plan's adoption last month.

The upcoming Regional Plan-2041 is expected to propose the creation of five greenfield cities. To support this development, the Central Government has earmarked ₹5,000 crore in development grants.

Areas included within the NCR fall under the regional planning framework of the NCR Planning Board. This framework coordinates land use, transport, and infrastructure planning across state boundaries.

While inclusion in the NCR does not automatically guarantee new projects or direct funding, it ensures that local development aligns with the broader NCR Regional Plan. Additionally, these areas are subject to environmental regulations established by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
