Centre Sets Up Joint Cyber Coordination Teams In Seven Hotspots To Tackle Fraud
The Central Government announced in New Delhi on Tuesday that it has constituted Joint Cyber Coordination Teams across seven major hotspots to strengthen coordination in tackling cybercrime.
The teams have been established under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) for Mewat in Haryana, Jamtara in Jharkhand, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Visakhapatnam, and Guwahati.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar stated that these teams cover the entire country by onboarding states and Union Territories. This initiative aims to enhance the coordination framework among law enforcement agencies dealing with cybercrime hotspots and multi-jurisdictional cases.
According to the minister, the I4C has operationalised the 'Samanvaya' platform to serve as a management information system, data repository, and coordination platform for sharing and analysing cybercrime data. Additionally, the 'Pratibimb' module is being used to map the locations of criminals and cybercrime infrastructure, providing techno-legal assistance to law enforcement agencies.
This coordinated framework has already resulted in the arrest of more than 29,837 accused individuals and has facilitated over 2.33 lakh requests for cyber investigation assistance.
Furthermore, the government revealed that the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System have helped save more than Rs 11,158 crore across more than 32.80 lakh complaints up to June 30 this year.
Between 2021 and 2025, a total of 65.89 lakh financial fraud complaints involving over Rs 55,050 crore were reported on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Out of these, Rs 8,189 crore was marked under lien, and 1.95 lakh FIRs were registered.
To further assist law enforcement, the Ministry of Home Affairs launched the 'Sahyog' portal to speed up notices to IT intermediaries for removing or disabling access to unlawful online content. The government has also registered 1.63 lakh police and judicial officers on the 'CyTrain' online learning platform, issuing 1.61 lakh certificates. Additionally, 281 cyber commandos completed specialised training in September 2024 to protect critical information infrastructure.
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data cited in the reply showed that registered cybercrime cases across India rose from 50,035 in 2020 to 1,01,928 in 2024. Fraud was the most common offence last year with 29,758 cases, followed by cheating at 19,296 cases.
