CCTV Captures Suspect Fleeing After Murder of Elderly Woman in Delhi's Pant Nagar

Delhi Police are questioning recent visitors and callers after CCTV footage captured a suspect fleeing the residence of 69-year-old Preeti Kumar, who was found murdered in southeast Delhi's Pant Nagar on Friday morning.
According to investigators, CCTV cameras in the neighbourhood showed the suspect entering Kumar's ground-floor, one-bedroom home at around 3:15 am and fleeing through the rear of the property at around 4 am. A police officer noted that the suspect was seen running near a drain behind the house, taking a route that leads towards Nizamuddin East and the BRT corridor.
Kumar, who lived alone, was discovered dead on her bed by her daughter, Vijaita Arora. The victim's hands were bound, and she had facial bruises alongside signs of a nosebleed. The house had been ransacked, leading police to suspect she was killed during a robbery attempt.
Neighbours informed police that the intruder allegedly latched five nearby flats from the outside before entering Kumar's residence, an apparent attempt to stop residents from intervening if she raised an alarm.
Investigators are currently questioning individuals who visited Kumar over the past few days, as well as those who had spoken with her over the phone ahead of the incident. Officers are working to determine whether the suspect conducted a prior recce of the house or received details about her daily routine and the layout of the property from an acquaintance.
A case of murder and other relevant legal provisions has been registered at the Nizamuddin police station.
