Cab driver accused of child rape and murder cleaned vehicle in Gurgaon

A commercial cab driver accused of abducting, raping, and murdering a 10-year-old girl in the Mehrauli area of New Delhi allegedly attempted to destroy forensic evidence by thoroughly scrubbing his vehicle near his employer’s residential building in Gurgaon. The suspect, identified as Basu Singh, changed his clothes on the roadside and continued to ferry passengers after the crime.

According to police sources, Singh operated with precision after the incident to cover his tracks. After cleaning his vehicle in Gurgaon to remove all forensic evidence, he carried on with his routine work as usual, accepting the next ride that came his way and dropping off passengers.

The Delhi Police have seized the pair of clothes Singh was wearing during the crime, which he was also spotted wearing in CCTV footage. The footage captured him cleaning the commercial vehicle near his employer’s residence in Gurgaon a short time after the incident.

An investigation into Singh's background revealed that he is a drug addict with an extensive criminal record spanning more than a decade. He faces at least five cases registered in his hometown in Bihar’s Khagaria district, with charges dating back to 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. These past charges include molestation, rioting, and attempted murder.

While the Delhi Police are working to obtain a formal criminal dossier from the Bihar Police, Singh has claimed that the prior cases were filed during a family land dispute. A family member of the accused also stated that one of the cases was related to a protest during a festival.

The tragic death of the 10-year-old girl has led to the arrest and ongoing investigation of the suspect. Police have focused on securing key physical and CCTV evidence, including the seized clothing and the footage of the vehicle being cleaned in Gurgaon, to build their case against the driver.
