BJP MP Sambit Patra WhatsApp Account Hacked in New Delhi

On Sunday, the WhatsApp account of BJP national spokesperson and Member of Parliament Sambit Patra was hacked in New Delhi, leading to misleading messages and fraudulent financial demands being sent from his number.

Patra disclosed the security breach through a public post on the social media platform X. He warned his contacts and the general public that unauthorized individuals had gained control of his WhatsApp number and were actively using it to solicit money.

According to Patra, the hackers have been sending out misleading messages and making demands for money through various means. He explicitly stated that all such communications are completely fake, constitute a cybercrime, and have no connection to him.

Upon discovering the hack, the BJP leader immediately contacted senior officials of the Odisha Police to report the incident. Patra confirmed that necessary legal and technical actions have already been initiated by the authorities to address the matter and secure the account.

In his public warning, Patra requested that people refrain from trusting any messages, phone calls, or financial transaction requests originating from his compromised number. He urged his contacts not to send any money in any form. Furthermore, Patra advised anyone who receives a suspicious message from his number to refrain from responding to it.

This incident of a public representative being targeted by cybercriminals follows a similar event from last year. In that case, the WhatsApp account of NCP (SCP) working president and Baramati MP Supriya Sule was hacked. The hacker in that incident demanded 400 dollars to restore access to her account. Sule filed an online complaint with the Pune Rural Police, who found the account active on another device and successfully restored it within a few hours.
