BJP Criticises CJP Leaders Over Hotel Celebration After Ending Delhi Agitation
A viral video showing leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) celebrating at a hotel in New Delhi after withdrawing their 36-day protest sparked political controversy, drawing criticism from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders over the timing and funding of the agitation. The celebration followed the CJP calling off its movement after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and the Centre held a third round of talks with the organisation.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Jethmalani raised questions on social media platform X regarding the funding behind the month-long protest, which had previously seen days of violence in the capital. Jethmalani questioned who financed the travel, food, accommodation, equipment, and logistics during the agitation that kept Delhi on the boil, criticizing the leadership for throwing a party after days of unrest.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also shared the video on X, stating that while hard work deserved celebration, the scenes of dancing immediately after a movement centered on justice for students struck a jarring contrast. Malviya alleged that many students who joined the movement in good faith might feel misled and stated that the youth of the country deserved sincerity rather than spectacle.
The viral footage surfaced a day after the CJP called off its agitation. It showed CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das, national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, member Arpit Sharma, and other members dancing together at a hotel. The agitation had focused on alleged examination irregularities, including the NEET paper leak, and student struggles.
Responding to the criticism, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das defended the event, stating that government officials and media anchors failed to understand how younger generations organise and express themselves. Writing on X, Das stated that the movement could fight for change while dancing or sipping cold coffee, describing the current generation as confident, creative, and resilient.
CJP announced it withdrew the protest in good faith following Pradhan's resignation and assurances from the Centre regarding its remaining demands. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that the organisation will soon announce its future course of action and will continue to pursue issues such as cases filed against student protesters and an alleged paper leak in Punjab.
