BJP Chief Nitin Nabin Summons Three Delhi MPs Over Visit to Sajjan Kumar's Residence

Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Nabin on Saturday summoned three party Members of Parliament from Delhi—Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and Yogender Chandolia—and expressed strong displeasure over their visit to the residence of former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar to offer condolences following his death.

Kumar, who was serving two life sentences in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, died at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi on August 20, 2026. Following his demise, the three Delhi parliamentarians had recently visited Kumar's residence to pay their condolences, prompting severe criticism within the party ranks.

A party source confirmed that the national president summoned the three lawmakers on Saturday to convey the party's discontent over their actions.

Senior Supreme Court advocate and BJP leader H.S. Phoolka commended the party president for addressing the matter decisively, remarking that it demonstrated leadership in contrast to what he termed the hypocrisy of the Congress over the years. Phoolka, who represented victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in legal proceedings for decades before joining the BJP on April 1, had strongly condemned the MPs' visit a day earlier on Friday and called for their boycott.

In a post on social platform X, Phoolka noted that sympathy should be reserved for the victims and their families rather than the convicted leader, highlighting that the BJP had consistently supported the pursuit of justice for riot victims for 40 years.

BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh also criticized the three MPs for visiting Kumar's home, pointing out that Kumar had been convicted by the court for his role in the 1984 violence against Sikhs and asserting that legal accountability had been achieved under Prime Minister Modi's leadership after years of inaction during previous administrations.
