Barapullah Phase-III Flyover Sees Congestion at Mayur Vihar Before Opening Fully

Traffic congestion hit the newly opened Barapullah Phase-III flyover connecting Mayur Vihar Phase-I on the Noida Link Road to Sarai Kale Khan on Thursday after Delhi Traffic Police set up barricades at the entrance. The disruption temporarily restricted vehicular movement before the barricades were cleared and normal flow was restored.
Commuters travelling from Mayur Vihar Phase-I towards Sarai Kale Khan were particularly affected by the curbs, which came just a day after the stretch opened to motorists. During the blockade, traffic personnel advised motorists to divert onto the DND Flyway or the Akshardham route to bypass the congestion.
A senior traffic police officer confirmed that the issue was resolved later in the day. The officer noted that there was traffic congestion for some time, during which commuters were advised to take alternate routes, but with the barricades removed, traffic returned to normal and commuters were travelling without further hassle.
Public Works Department (PWD) officials also confirmed that the carriageway from AIIMS towards Mayur Vihar was opened on Thursday afternoon, facilitating traffic movement along the new stretch. PWD officials said vehicular movement from Mayur Vihar towards AIIMS has now been opened for regular commuter travel.
The newly inaugurated corridor connects Mayur Vihar Phase-I on the Noida Link Road directly with Sarai Kale Khan on the Ring Road. It merges with the existing Barapullah network to establish a continuous, signal-free corridor of approximately 9 km extending up to the AIIMS roundabout, designed to reduce pressure on the DND and Akshardham stretches.
The project was inaugurated on Tuesday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah alongside four other road projects, bringing the total project outlay to Rs 1,941 crore. The Rs 1,635-crore Barapullah Phase-III project was approved in 2014, with construction commencing in 2015 and an original completion deadline of 2017, but it faced multiple delays that escalated its total cost.
