Bank guard and associate arrested for murder of Najafgarh man in Dwarka

The Dwarka Police have arrested a 66-year-old private bank security guard and his associate for the murder of a 38-year-old Najafgarh resident, whose decomposed body was discovered near Kargil Chowk in Sector 18A, Dwarka, on July 12.

The victim, identified as Akhilesh Mandal, was allegedly killed by Anil Thakur, a trusted family friend, and his 28-year-old associate, Raju Kumar. Following the murder, the suspects dumped Mandal's body in a grassy area near a local drain.

According to investigators, Thakur used his close relationship with the victim's family to mislead them after the crime. By actively deceiving the family members, Thakur managed to delay them from reporting Mandal as missing, which initially kept the police from launching a search.

The case came to light on July 12 when authorities received information about an unidentified, highly decomposed body lying in the grass between a road and a drain near Kargil Chowk. Upon arriving at the scene, officers noted that the body bore a severe head injury and had visible tattoos, but carried no identification documents to establish who he was.

Following the discovery, a murder case was registered at the Dwarka North police station. To solve the crime, the police formed multiple specialized teams comprising personnel from the Special Staff and the Dwarka North police station.

The investigators launched a thorough probe, examining nearly 500 CCTV footage clips from the crime scene and adjoining routes. Alongside the visual footage analysis, the police utilized technical surveillance to establish Mandal's identity and trace the two suspects.

The technical surveillance and CCTV analysis eventually led the police to Thakur and Kumar, who were subsequently arrested. Both men now face murder charges as the investigation continues.
