Bad Weather Disrupts Operations at Delhi Airport, 15 Flights Diverted

At least 15 flights were diverted and hundreds more were disrupted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Monday, August 24, 2026, due to inclement weather conditions across the capital, according to an official.

Heavy rains lashed the national capital, with thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph affecting parts of the city. The adverse conditions severely impacted operations at the airport, causing scores of flight delays and cancellations throughout the day.

According to an official, 12 of the diverted flights were rerouted to Jaipur, two were sent to Chandigarh, and one was diverted to Lucknow.

Tracking data from Flightradar24.com showed that over 280 flight services were delayed and more than 20 flights were cancelled as a result of the weather conditions.

Airlines operating out of the capital issued warnings to passengers regarding the schedule disruptions. In a post on X, IndiGo noted that bad weather in the national capital had impacted flight schedules and stated that the airline was closely monitoring the situation. Air India also warned travelers on X, stating that adverse weather conditions might impact flight operations to and from Delhi.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport is one of the busiest transit hubs in the country, handling more than 1,300 flight movements daily.
