Ashish Sood Orders Coaching Hub Safety Inspections After Saket Building Collapse

Following a fatal commercial building collapse near the Saket Metro Station last month, Delhi Home and Education Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, ordered a comprehensive, multi-agency inspection campaign of coaching hubs across the city to verify compliance with safety norms and building regulations.
The safety drive will target several prominent student hubs, specifically focusing on coaching centers in Mukherjee Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, and Katwaria Sarai. The inspection campaign is designed to ensure that these facilities strictly adhere to fire safety guidelines, structural building regulations, and other mandatory safety requirements.
The urgent directive from the Minister follows two recent fatal incidents that have raised serious concerns over student safety in commercial spaces. Last month, a commercial building located near the Saket Metro Station collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of five students. This localized incident has put the safety of student facilities under intense scrutiny.
In addition to the tragedy near Saket, another disaster occurred just two days prior to the Minister's order. A devastating fire broke out at a commercial building in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of 15 people, the majority of whom were students.
In response to these successive tragedies, the Delhi government is mobilizing multiple civic, development, and disaster management bodies to conduct the joint inspections. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will all participate in the special drive.
Minister Sood, who holds both the Home and Education portfolios, has directed officials from these participating agencies to ensure the immediate implementation of long-term safety measures without any delay.
“Safety of students is our highest priority,” Minister Sood said when directing the agencies to launch the comprehensive campaign.
The authorities involved in the drive will inspect coaching hubs to check for any violations of building codes and fire safety norms, aiming to secure student environments across Mukherjee Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Katwaria Sarai, and other areas of the city.
