AISA Claims Delhi Police Detained President Neha Bora in Unmarked Car Near Jantar Mantar

AISA Claims Delhi Police Detained President Neha Bora in Unmarked Car Near Jantar Mantar

Members of the All India Students' Association (AISA) claimed on Sunday that the Delhi Police picked up the student organisation's national president, Neha Bora, in a private vehicle without an official number plate near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and took her to an unknown location.

The detention took place during a protest march organised by the student outfit against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration marked the third consecutive day that AISA activists had attempted to return to Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, continuing their agitation despite heavy police barricading and substantial security deployment in the area.

According to news agency PTI, the mobilisation began at the Andhra Bhawan Circle located on Ashoka Road. From there, the student protesters proceeded towards Jantar Mantar, raising slogans and attempting to reach the designated demonstration site while navigating a heavy police presence stationed along the stretch.

Tensions escalated on the ground as protesters and security personnel clashed briefly along the road. Police personnel moved in to block the march and prevent the gathering of demonstrators from crossing the security barricades placed to restrict their movement.

Visuals recorded from the march showed Bora attempting to climb over a police barricade as police officials moved in and attempted to stop her from pushing past the security perimeter.

Following the detention, AISA members alleged that the police committed a direct violation of established procedure. The organisation specifically stated that no woman police officer was present inside the private vehicle at the time Bora was taken away to an unknown location.

There was no immediate reaction or official statement from the Delhi Police regarding the allegations raised by the student organisation concerning Bora's detention and the circumstances surrounding her removal from the protest site.
