AIIMS New Delhi Bans Unauthorized Use of Its Name and Logo on Social Media

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has issued strict new social media guidelines for its students, residents, and employees, restricting the unauthorized use of the institute’s name, logo, and branding on digital platforms. The directive, issued via an official memorandum dated June 22, came into force with immediate effect.
According to the order approved by the competent authority, while social media platforms are recognized as powerful tools for communication, outreach, and engagement, they also pose significant risks when institutional branding is used without proper authorization. The administration noted that improper use can lead to serious reputational damage and potential legal complications for the premier medical facility.
Under the new rules, no student, employee, or associated body is permitted to use the name "AIIMS, New Delhi", the official AIIMS logo, emblem, or any form of official branding in either digital or print formats. Anyone wishing to use these assets must first obtain prior written approval from the concerned department.
In addition to branding restrictions, the guidelines place a heavy emphasis on patient privacy. The memorandum explicitly instructs all staff and students to never post, share, or discuss any patient information, images, or case details on social media. This strict prohibition applies even if the patient is not directly identified in the post.
The directive also outlines rules for personal and departmental social media accounts. Such accounts must clearly mention that their content is student-generated or department-generated, and explicitly state that it is not officially endorsed by the institution unless stated otherwise.
Finally, the guidelines instruct the AIIMS community to avoid posting any political, religious, or defamatory material. The order urges all students, residents, and employees to maintain a respectful and professional tone on social media that aligns with the core values of the institute.
