AAP to Hold Town Hall Against E-20 Fuel Policy at Delhi Constitution Club
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the party will hold a "National Town Hall Against E-20" at the Constitution Club in Delhi on August 1. The event, scheduled to begin at noon, aims to gather experts, vehicle owners, and affected stakeholders on a single platform to oppose the Centre's E-20 fuel policy.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal urged residents from Delhi and neighbouring cities who can attend in person to reach the Constitution Club by 11:30 a.m. For those outside Delhi unable to attend physically, an option to join online will be provided. Interested participants have been asked to send a WhatsApp message to receive an access link by Friday evening ahead of the Saturday discussion.
Kejriwal stated that thousands of people are expected to participate in the town hall. He raised concerns over the impact of E-20 blended fuel, stating that motorists across the country are facing immense hardship due to vehicle damage and dropping fuel efficiency. He appealed to the Prime Minister to step in and resolve the issue before it turns into a larger movement.
The town hall will allow experts and affected citizens an opportunity to speak and chalk out a future course of action to press the government to withdraw the policy. Kejriwal shared that an online petition addressed to the Prime Minister regarding the issue has already collected more than two lakh signatures. He announced that he will visit the Prime Minister's residence after the programme to officially submit the petition.
During the press conference, Kejriwal also commented on police action against protesting students in states like Bihar and West Bengal. He criticized the use of lathi-charges and registration of FIRs against students, calling it a failure of government assurances. Commenting on the 2024 NEET paper leak case, Kejriwal remarked that enacting stricter laws serves no purpose without the political will to prosecute the education mafia.
