AAP Councillors Bring Inflatable Boat into MCD House to Protest Waterlogging

Aam Aadmi Party councillors brought an inflatable rubber boat inside the House during a general meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday to protest against severe waterlogging across the city following heavy rainfall.

Prior to entering the meeting, AAP councillors filled the rubber boat with air outside the House. They then carried the inflated boat inside the chamber, stood on the benches, and raised slogans to draw attention to the civic conditions in the capital.

The demonstration led to a disruption of the session, prompting Mayor Pravesh Wahi to adjourn the House for approximately 10 minutes. Proceedings later resumed amid heated exchanges between Bharatiya Janata Party and Opposition councillors, with the meeting eventually continuing until 6:30 pm.

Leader of the Opposition in the House Anukush Narang criticised the ruling party, alleging that the BJP had failed to address the serious issue of water accumulation. Narang stated that the city had never witnessed this kind of waterlogging before and alleged that the civic administration had failed to implement adequate measures to manage the situation.

Responding to the protest, Mayor Pravesh Wahi accused the Opposition of evading meaningful debate. Wahi said that AAP councillors frequently seek to avoid constructive discussions on matters of public interest and instead create unnecessary disruptions during House proceedings.

The Mayor also issued a stern warning to the members present, stating that upholding and maintaining the dignity and decorum of the House remains the responsibility of every councillor.
