8 Arrested After Bihar Man Shot Dead in Southeast Delhi's Pul Prahladpur
A resident of Bihar was allegedly lured to Delhi under the pretext of resolving an old dispute and shot dead at a rented property in southeast Delhi's Pul Prahladpur, police said on Thursday. Eight people have been arrested in connection with the murder following coordinated raids across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, spanning approximately 12,000 kilometres.
The victim was identified as Md Irshad Alam, also known as Guddu Badshah, from Bihar's Supaul district. According to investigators, Alam was called to the national capital to settle a rivalry with Shamshad and Ashafak, who also hail from Supaul. However, the meeting was a setup, and Alam was fatally shot on July 28.
At the scene of the crime, police found 27-year-old Pul Prahladpur resident Md Farukh with a bullet injury. While Farukh initially claimed to be an injured victim, interrogation, call-detail analysis, and surveillance exposed inconsistencies in his statements, pointing to his involvement in the plot. Police arrested him on the day of the incident after discovering he had helped lure Alam to the premises.
Along with Farukh, police arrested seven other suspects: Aftab, Shamshad, 28, Ashafak, 23, Rahmatullah alias Chhotu, 22, and Shoib Akhtar, all from Supaul; Irfan, 23, from Sahibabad in Ghaziabad; and Aman Yadav, 25, from Lal Kuan in Delhi. Shamshad and Ashafak allegedly coordinated the plan using internet-based communication platforms. Both have past criminal records, including an alleged involvement in a murder case registered in Supaul.
Investigators said the execution team was tracked across multiple states. Aftab, who allegedly coordinated the movement of the shooters, was traced and apprehended in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, with help from local police. Irfan provided shelter and logistics after the shooting and hid weapons; police recovered an illegal pistol, a magazine, and live cartridges based on his statements. Aman Yadav allegedly provided accommodation near Lal Kuan, rode his motorcycle with other suspects on the night of the crime, and joined in the firing after being promised money.
Police said the accused attempted to evade detection by switching off mobile phones, frequently moving locations, and relying on Wi-Fi hotspots and web platforms. All eight suspects have been produced before a court, and efforts are ongoing to recover two additional illegal firearms and establish the full sequence of events.
