7-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Waterlogged Plot in Samaypur Badli

A seven-year-old boy drowned in a rainwater-filled vacant plot in Sanjay Colony, Samaypur Badli, in outer Delhi on Thursday morning. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 AM, has led to allegations of negligence against local authorities due to severe waterlogging and a lack of basic facilities in the area.

The victim, a child named Rehan, was a Class III student. His family has been living in the Samaypur Badli area for approximately nine years. According to the Delhi Police, Rehan and his five-year-old brother had gone to the vacant plot in Sanjay Colony at around 8:30 AM to attend nature’s call. While at the plot, the child ventured into a deeper portion of the accumulated rainwater and drowned.

When the two children did not return home for half an hour, the family began searching the neighborhood for them. Rehan's mother stated that they checked local CCTV cameras, which showed that the seven-year-old had slipped into the water.

His family eventually pulled him out of the water and took him to Burari Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The Delhi Police have since confirmed that inquest proceedings are currently underway, and the child's body has been handed over to his family.

Following the tragic incident, Rehan's family raised allegations of negligence against the authorities. Pointing to the condition of the neighborhood, Rehan’s aunt stated that the entire vacant plot was filled with accumulated water. She alleged that there are no basic facilities in the area and that the child's death happened because of the authorities' negligence.
