60-Year-Old Man Murdered in Rohini Sector 3 Flat Over Rs 80-Lakh Gold

A 60-year-old man was murdered inside his Rohini Sector 3 residence on Tuesday after his wife’s niece allegedly orchestrated a robbery plot to steal Rs 80 lakh worth of gold. The victim, identified as Rakesh Khanna, had recently concluded a property sale, prompting the planned heist by his relative and her associates.

According to details of the case, Khanna had recently sold a flat for Rs 80 lakh and converted the cash into gold to secure his future. However, information regarding the assets reached his wife’s niece, 23-year-old Simran Taneja, who subsequently devised a plot to rob the residence.

Simran, a primary school teacher, used her familiarity with the family’s routine to organise the crime. She allegedly coordinated with three accomplices: her boyfriend Himanshu, who is a gym owner; Chirag, a 22-year-old trainer; and Paras, a 19-year-old Class XII student with a previous case history in Mukherjee Nagar.

The group began planning days prior to the incident, conducting a recce of the premises on August 30. Simran had also procured a duplicate key to the apartment's central lock to facilitate entry into the home.

On Tuesday, the suspects executed their plan. Knowing the gold and cash were inside the residence, Simran persuaded her aunt—Khanna’s wife—along with other relatives to go out and visit a local fair. The move ensured that Khanna, who was a heart patient, was left alone in the house.

Around 7:30 pm, the group arrived at the location. Simran and Himanshu took up positions outside the building to keep watch, while Chirag and Paras entered the apartment. Khanna was killed during the incident, though the intruders were ultimately unable to find the gold.
