32-Year-Old Factory Worker Drowns in Water-Filled Pit in Delhi's Prem Nagar

A 32-year-old factory worker died after allegedly falling into a water-filled pit on a vacant private plot in the Brij Vihar area of Prem Nagar, northwest Delhi, late Thursday night, according to police officials.

The deceased was identified as Himanshu Pal, who worked at a private factory in Mundka. The incident occurred around 11 pm on Thursday while Pal was returning home, reportedly in an inebriated condition. Investigators noted that a vacant plot near his residence had accumulated approximately eight to 10 feet of water.

A neighbour noticed Pal floating in the water and raised an alarm. Several local residents quickly gathered at the site and attempted to pull him out using a rope, but their rescue efforts proved unsuccessful.

Pal's father, Raj Kumar, informed investigators that his son had left home around 4 pm on Thursday for some work. Police said that prima facie, it appears the man accidentally fell into the pit while making his way home.

The body was sent for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Officials stated that all aspects and circumstances surrounding the incident are being thoroughly examined, and further action will depend on the autopsy report and the findings of the inquiry.

Police are also investigating the condition of the waterlogged plot and have not yet disclosed whether the pit was filled by rainwater or who owns the private property. Pal was married and is survived by his wife and their three-year-old son.
