31-Year-Old Labourer Killed by Crane in Mayapuri, Driver Arrested

A 31-year-old labourer was killed after being allegedly run over by a crane at the C-76 slums three-way intersection in Mayapuri, west Delhi, on Saturday evening, police said on Monday. Police have arrested the driver and seized the heavy machinery involved in the incident.

The victim was identified as Rahul, who resided with his family in local slums in the area. According to his family, the fatal accident took place around 7:30 PM on Saturday as Rahul was walking back to his residence after meeting a relative.

His sister-in-law, Ramrati, stated that the crane struck Rahul and crushed him under its wheels as he walked. Ramrati further alleged in her complaint that the driver fled the spot with the vehicle immediately after the collision.

Police received a phone call regarding the incident on Saturday night, informing them that a man who had been run over was lying on the road. A police team was dispatched to the accident spot, where they learned that the victim had already succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to any hospital.

Based on the complaint filed by Ramrati, police registered a case involving charges of rash driving and death by negligence.

During the investigation, police identified and arrested the crane driver, 49-year-old Dharam Dev. The crane involved in the incident, which bore a registration number from Haryana, was seized by the police team. Swami, a police officer, added that the arrested driver was subsequently released on bail.
