26-Year-Old Man Drowns in Najafgarh School Swimming Pool

A 26-year-old man drowned on Wednesday afternoon while swimming at a school pool in Najafgarh, Southwest Delhi. The victim, identified as Rahul Rai, was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The incident took place at the Bholi Ram Public School swimming pool around 5:30 PM.

Rai was a resident of Jharoda village, located in Southwest Delhi. He was employed packing cartons at a private company owned by his friend. On the day of the incident, Rai had gone to the school's swimming pool alongside three of his friends, identified as Suraj Singh, Tarun Kumar, and Bhavishya. The group of friends had paid an entry fee of Rs 650 to access and use the school's swimming facility.

While swimming, Rai began to drown. His friends noticed the emergency and immediately alerted the pool staff. Rai was subsequently pulled from the water and rushed to a local private hospital, but he could not be saved.

Following the incident, the Delhi Police registered a case of negligence and launched a formal investigation. A senior police officer confirmed that a team is currently examining CCTV footage from the school premises to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the drowning.

As part of the ongoing probe, police officers are verifying whether a qualified lifeguard was actively on duty at the pool, as required by safety regulations. Investigators are also looking into whether Rai and his friends had ventured into the deep end of the swimming pool when the drowning occurred.

At this stage of the investigation, the Delhi Police have stated that they do not suspect any foul play in connection with the death. The official post-mortem report is currently awaited to determine the precise cause of death. Bholi Ram Public School did not offer any response when approached for comment on the incident.
