26-Year-Old IIT Delhi MSc Physics Student Dies After Fall From Campus Building

A 26-year-old MSc Physics student died after allegedly jumping from the sixth floor of a building at the IIT Delhi campus on Saturday morning, according to police.

The Kishangarh police station received a PCR call around 8:33 am reporting that a student had jumped from a building inside the campus. A police team reached the spot and found the student injured. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to investigators, the student arrived at the campus through the main gate around 8:00 am and proceeded to the Lecture Hall Complex. He took a lift to the sixth floor and allegedly jumped from the front side of the building.

A Crime Team and personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the site and collected forensic evidence. Police confirmed that the deceased was enrolled in the MSc Physics programme at the institute.

Preliminary inquiries showed no apparent injury marks on the body other than those attributable to the fall. No suicide note was found at the scene.

Investigators recovered a mobile phone from the student's pocket, which will be examined as part of the inquiry. Police are also gathering counselling records and other relevant information from the institute.
