21-Year-Old Survives Severe Tractor Accident Injuries After Faridabad Surgery

A 21-year-old woman from Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh survived a rare combination of life-threatening injuries after her clothes became entangled in a tractor wheel, resulting in her being dragged and suffering severe internal trauma.

Following the incident, the woman was rushed in critical condition to Sarvodaya Hospital in Faridabad. Medical examinations revealed that she had suffered massive blood loss, a ruptured intestine, and a torn diaphragm.

Upon her arrival at the hospital, doctors determined that she was in haemorrhagic shock. She presented with dangerously low blood pressure, severe abdominal pain, breathing difficulty, and uncontrolled bleeding stemming from a severely injured right leg.

Medical scans and examinations indicated that the tear in her diaphragm had caused her stomach and part of her colon to shift upward into her chest cavity. This traumatic displacement put additional pressure on her respiratory system, further compromising her ability to breathe.

According to medical professionals at the hospital, such traumatic displacement of abdominal organs into the chest cavity is extremely rare, occurring in less than 1 percent of all trauma cases. Doctors noted that this specific condition can rapidly turn fatal due to severe internal bleeding, extensive organ damage, and acute shock.

To save her life, a multidisciplinary trauma team was assembled, led by Dr Arjun Goel, senior consultant and head of general and minimally invasive surgery. The surgical team immediately transferred the patient to the operating room and performed a nearly three-hour emergency operation.

Dr Arjun Goel stated that given the severity of her condition, the team immediately took her to the operating theatre to repair the extensive internal damage and stabilise her vital signs.
