19-year-old arrested for shooting sister dead in Gautampuri over marriage

Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly shooting and killing his 32-year-old sister following a family dispute in northeast Delhi’s Gautampuri. The fatal shooting occurred on Friday evening at approximately 8:00 PM.
The victim, identified as Waseema, had traveled to her parents' home in Gautampuri from the New Usmanpur area. According to the police, the family was upset over Waseema’s marriage to her friend, 33-year-old Irshad, which took place a few months ago.
An argument broke out when Waseema visited the residence on Friday. Following the dispute, she left the house. Her brother, Mohammad Anas, went after her and shot her dead before fleeing the spot.
A police team arrived at the location at around 8:00 PM on Friday after receiving information about the incident. Officers found Waseema lying outside her parents' house with a gunshot injury to her abdomen. She was declared dead at the scene.
On Saturday, a police patrolling team in the nearby Chauhan Bangar area intercepted Anas. Officers noted that he was acting suspiciously by running around nervously. Upon searching him, officers recovered a country-made pistol and six live cartridges from his possession.
During questioning, the accused, identified as Mohammad Anas, confessed to killing his sister. Following this confession, he was formally arrested on Sunday and charged with the murder of Waseema under Section 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Police have also detained Anas’ parents and relatives for questioning. Investigators are currently trying to ascertain the source of the weapon used in the crime. Waseema's husband, Irshad, has also been called in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation by the police.
