17-Year-Old Bihar Girl Murdered in Burari by Cousin Over Relationship, Police Say

A 17-year-old girl was murdered in north Delhi’s Burari after her cousin brought her to the capital from Bihar to separate her from a romantic relationship, according to the Delhi Police. The cousin allegedly planned the killing beforehand, purchasing a suitcase a day in advance to transport and dump the body.
According to police investigations, the victim, a native of Bihar, was involved in a relationship with a man living in her home state who was also a distant relative. Despite the two belonging to the same caste, the teenager's family strongly opposed the relationship. In an attempt to end the courtship, the family instructed her cousin, identified as Avinash, to take her away to Delhi.
Avinash, who works as a labourer, brought the teenager to the national capital on August 14. Upon their arrival, he initially kept her at her maternal grandmother’s house located in Azadpur.
Police said Avinash began executing his plan the following day. On August 15, he purchased a suitcase and left it at a mechanic shop run by his friend.
On August 16, the day of the murder, Avinash took the girl to the mechanic shop in Burari. He told his friend that they had arrived early and would wait at the premises before heading out for some work.
During the evening, the friend stepped out of the shop. Once left alone with the teenager, Avinash allegedly strangled her to death inside the premises. He then placed her body inside the suitcase he had stored there a day earlier.
Following the murder, Avinash transported the suitcase containing the body on his friend’s motorcycle and dumped it. Police stated that the friend allegedly assisted him in getting rid of the body.
