17 Delhi Police Officers Awarded Service Medals for Independence Day
Seventeen Delhi Police officers have been selected for prestigious service medals on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, the police department announced on Saturday.
Additional Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar Gupta, a 2010-batch IPS officer currently heading the southern zone of the traffic unit, and Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar have been selected for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM).
Fifteen other officers were named recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). Among them are Joint Commissioners of Police Nupur Prasad and Surender Kumar, both from the 2007 IPS batch, as well as Inspectors Tara Dutt and Rakesh Kumar Bhatt. The list of meritorious service medal recipients also includes six women personnel across the sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, and head constable ranks.
Inspector Dutt is currently posted as personal assistant to Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone-1) Devesh Chandra Srivastava at the Delhi Police headquarters.
Joint CP Prasad, who currently heads the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police, was the first deputy commissioner of police for the Shahdara police district after its formation in 2017. She also served as DCP (North) and previously worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation, where she supervised high-profile probes including the AgustaWestland case and the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Her husband, Joint CP Surender Kumar, who currently serves in the Delhi Police crime branch, pioneered the e-Beat Book system in 2015. He has also worked on extradition procedures, cyber awareness campaigns, and the implementation of policing systems aligned with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. His work includes integrating e-FIR systems with the 1930 cyber-fraud helpline, ZIPNET, criminal dossier platforms, and e-Beat Book 2.0.
The awardees across the subordinate ranks include Sub-Inspector Anjana Kumari, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Kailash Chand, Satish Patil, Anand Ballabh, Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Bindu, and Dinesh Kumari, alongside Head Constables Lalita, Sharmila, Pushpa Rani, and Vijay Singh. Among them, ASI Patil was involved in apprehending a wanted terrorist linked to the banned KYKL outfit and previously participated in the recovery of 102 kilograms of cannabis.
