12-Year-Old Pandav Nagar Student Dies; Family Alleges Teacher Harassment

A 12-year-old girl died under mysterious circumstances in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area on August 27, prompting police to examine the matter after her family alleged that she had been scolded and beaten by a teacher at a government school.

The Class VII student passed away on August 27 and was cremated by her family on the same day. According to police, the girl had a medical history of epilepsy, and authorities are looking into the sequence of events leading up to her death.

The matter came to light after a PCR call was received at the Kalyanpuri police station around 9:51 am on Monday. The call followed allegations made by the girl’s aunt, who claimed that the child died after being beaten by a school teacher.

During preliminary verification, police found that on July 22, the girl had allegedly been scolded by her class teacher for failing to bring a school book. According to the family's claims, she was made to stand at the back of the classroom as punishment.

The girl was reportedly unwell at the time of the incident. The school contacted her family, who came and took her home. She was subsequently taken to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) Hospital for medical treatment.

The girl’s mother alleged that the incident at school caused her daughter severe emotional and mental distress. She claimed her daughter was subjected to sustained distress following the episode, stating that the child fell into depression after being treated harshly in class and that no representatives from the school visited her.

Police officials noted that no formal complaint alleging physical assault or misconduct by the teacher was filed during the nearly 40-day window between the July 22 classroom incident and the girl’s death, nor prior to her cremation.
