12-Year-Old Girl Dies After DTC Bus Hits Scooter in East Delhi's New Ashok Nagar

A 12-year-old girl died and her uncle was injured after a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus struck their scooter in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar on Friday morning. Police have apprehended the driver of the bus following the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Kayna Pal, a resident of Khichripur. She was a Class VIII student at a private school located in Vasundhara Enclave.

The collision occurred around 8 am when Kayna was travelling to her school for Independence Day celebrations. She was riding pillion on her uncle’s scooter at the time of the crash. Following the impact, the girl was declared dead on the spot, while her uncle sustained injuries.

The bus driver, identified as 45-year-old SK Murad, initially fled the scene after the incident but was later caught by the police. Investigators are questioning the driver and examining the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. DTC has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

The accident triggered immediate commotion in the area, with local residents and commuters gathering at the spot. Agitated bystanders allegedly vandalised the bus, causing visible damage to its windscreen.

Aman Pal, the victim's father, said he was informed about the crash through a phone call from his sister. He stated that upon rushing to the location, he found his brother injured and his daughter dead. He alleged that the scooter was being ridden properly in its lane when the bus, approaching from the opposite direction, entered the wrong lane and hit the two-wheeler while possibly attempting to overtake another vehicle.
